Monday 26th February

Just been and done my lunchtime training run - hill repeats. Basically you run to the nearest hill, run up it for for 2 minutes then come back down at a very slow pace for 3 minutes - repeat 10 times and then run home. Managed 6.9 miles in 68 minutes, which made for a nice and easy training set - however after yesterdays 14.75 mile run my legs are aching a bit.
Still Wymondham 20 mile race this coming Sunday with a cycle there and back (13 miles each way). Legs should really ache next Monday - I'll let you know.

Weekend Training

Well, got a bit lazy towards the end of last week - with no training on Friday or Saturday (work and family commitments). However Sunday was a different story.
Started out with a run in the morning, left home at around 7am and managed to complete 14.75 miles albeit in a poor time of 2:00:52 - I need to be through 15 miles at the 2 hour mark for the marathon. However I did have the start of a cold and this reflected in my average heart rate which achieved 159BPM - normally I should be around 150-152 for 8 minute mile pace. Weather was poor as well and light rain accompanied me all the way round.

In the afternoon when it had stopped raining and dried up a bit, I managed to get the new bike out of the garage for a quick lap. The lack of weight is incredible, and without really trying I managed 10.4 miles in 31:49 minutes - averaging 19.6mph. With that kind of speed it should help knock a couple of minutes of my Olympic Tri times.

Saturday 24 February 2007

No training yesterday (on a works course), or today (family commitments). However I have managed to pick up my new bike. Its a Specialized Roubaix Pro - full carbon, carbon wheels, hubs, Dura ace groupset etc, got it for a bargain price as a great friend is getting out of the cycling game.
Training stars again tomorrow (Sunday) with a 15-17 mile run early in the morning and hopefully a try of the bike later in the day.

Another day another run

Completly knackered today, but still went and did a 6 mile run from Canary Wharf to Tower Bridge and back again at lunchtime. Timed it out at 46:07 - so nice gentle pace. Just stuffing my face with a cup of tea and a very large Chocolate muffin.

21st February - Todays Training

Ok - am off for a run at lunchtime to try and keep my mileage up ready for London. The idea is to run from Canary Wharf, out to the Excel center (where the London Tri is based from), round the wharf and back to CW. If time allows we may do a lap of the Isle of dogs taking the run up to 10 miles in total.

Back again - managed to do the 6.3 mile loop out to Excel and back, but didn't do the additional 4 miles due to the fact I'm swimming tonight.Garmin started to play up half way round so don't know my time for the distance but it's about 47 to 48 minutes. Trained with Bob Peers who pole vaults for Kent, and is also doing London.

To finish the day I managed to get in the swim training at NHSFG. Felt hard work but managed to get 2000m in. Went home, eat, sleep, up at 5am back to work. Joy

The start of something new

OK - I've been talked into this by Rob Lines - our resident Webmaster - who believes it's a good idea. As most of you will know I'm attempting my first marathon at London this year and the training has already started. However what I plan on doing is giving an update of this and other things going on at the club, with my training and life in general.

I have to say right off the bat I'm enjoying the challenge of being Chairman of the biggest Triathlon club in Norfolk. I've made a great number of friendships in my 2 years at the club and I hope these will continue. We are very fortunate to have a large number of people very passionate about the sport, club and events that we manage, and this shows in the levels of professionalism the club encompasses.

So here's looking forward to the year ahead, the challenges of the club, training and racing - lets hope for PB's in them all.
